Man charged with murder of 35-year-old at lift lobby of Yishun HDB block

SINGAPORE: A 49-year-old man was charged on Sunday (Jul 28) with the murder of a 35-year-old man at Block 803 Yishun Ring Road.
Affendi Yusoff, a Singaporean, is accused of causing the death of Mr Fiqri Choo Iskandar at a lift lobby on the 10th floor of the block on Saturday morning.
Although the charge sheet did not specify the relationship between the men, preliminary investigations revealed that they were both known to each other.
The case has been set for further mention on Aug 2. The offence of murder carries the death penalty.
The police said they were called to the case at about 8.35am on Saturday. The victim was found lying motionless and he was pronounced dead at the scene.
When CNA arrived just before 11am, there were several police vehicles at the block with a crime-scene investigation team on location.
The 10th floor was completely cordoned off and multiple blood stains could be seen on the floor, corridor walls and parapet outside a unit.
Prior to discovering the body, residents say they heard an argument and loud shouting.
A 12th-floor resident at the opposite block who only wanted to be known as Jerry said he heard shouting between two men at around 8am, thinking it could be his neighbours downstairs.
He saw police cars when he went out to buy breakfast at around 10am.
CNA understands from neighbours that the victim lived alone in Block 803 and had been primarily cared for by an aunt.
A resident on the sixth floor said he had known the victim for more than 10 years as neighbours, although they were not close.
He told CNA that he last saw the victim on Monday when they spoke in the lift.
